The Secret Garden opens September 19th

Farmers Alley Theatre is proud to open our seventh season with the musical adaption of one of the most beloved books of the 20th century, THE SECRET GARDEN.  The haunting moors of England are brought back to life when Mary Lennox, orphaned at the age of eleven, comes to live with her mysterious Uncle Archibald and her sickly cousin, Colin.  With the help of her charming new friend, Dickon, Mary rejuvenates the house, its inhabitants, and its neglected garden back to full health.  With a lush score and Tony-Award winning book, THE SECRET GARDEN, is the perfect musical to bring the whole family to as we start our brand new season – running September 19th thru October 12th.

THE SECRET GARDEN is certainly going to be a family affair this fall.  Our artistic director, Jeremy Koch stars as Archibald Craven, and his wife and co-founder of Farmers Alley, Denene Mulay Koch is featured as his luminous love, Lily.  Jason Koch (Jeremy & Denene’s son), portrays the feeble Colin, who befriends Mary Lennox, to be played by an immensely talented newcomer, Traverse City’s Madison Hertel.  Other key roles include former University of Michigan grad, Jane Bruce as the good-natured maid Martha,New York City’s DJ Bucciarelli as the energetic Dickon,  and Kalamazoo’s own Zachary Joel Smits (last seen as Ernst in our production of Cabaret) as Archibald’s scheming brother, Neville.

THE SECRET GARDENwill be directed by Kathy Mulay, fresh off this summer’s hit, Cabaret.  Marie McColley Kerstetter (The Marvelous Wonderettes, Ring of Fire, My Way) will serve as Music Director.  The rest of the cast includes local talent Emily Blewitt, Betsy Steinert, Max Wardlaw and John Mulay  – Kathy’s husband, Denene’s father, and Jason’s grandfather.  We said the show would be a family affair!
