DENENE & BRIAN coming March 4th and 5th
Farmers Alley Theatre’s final Spotlight Series Concert of the year is fast approaching! DENENE AND BRIAN MULAY: SINGING SIBLINGS will take to the Farmers Alley stage March 4th & 5th.
After the success of our previous Spotlight Series concerts featuring Nich Mueller, Eric Gutman and Blake Whyte, Farmers Alley is proud to welcome home West Michigan natives Denene & Brian Mulay. These two siblings will take you on a trip down memory lane as they share their songs and stories about growing up in theatre, honing their skills in high school and at the Kalamazoo Civic, dreaming of Broadway, living and auditioning in New York City and travelling the world performing.
Brian Mulay is a nationally recognized performer and teacher, who honed his skills right here in Kalamazoo. Under the tutelage of his mother, Award-Winning Director Kathy Mulay, Brian excelled onstage both at the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre and Portage Northern High School. Brian attended college at the University of Michigan where he received his BFA. He then worked professionally for many years with the National Tour of Fiddler on the Roof (Bottle Dancer) and as the Dance Captain for the European Tour of 42nd Street. Brian is also an accomplished choreographer, teaching at many schools throughout New York including the famed Professional Performing Arts School in mid-town Manhattan.
Much like her brother Brian, Denene Mulay Koch was a performer from birth. After excelling on the stage during her youth at the Civic and in high school, she would go on to attend the prestigious Cincinnati Conservatory of Music where she earned her degree. After moving to New York City, she soon got a job that would change her life forever: the role of Maria in the National Tour of West Side Story. There, singing “Tonight, tonight” on the fire escape she would fall in love every performance with Tony. Fate would intercede, as that actor portraying Tony would turn out to be her future husband, Jeremy Koch. After they married, Denene & Jeremy moved back to her hometown, started a family and co-founded Farmers Alley Theatre in 2008. Some of her memorable roles at Farmers Alley include Jane in Jane Eyre, Lucille Frank in Parade, Missy in The Marvelous Wonderettes and Lily in The Secret Garden (Wilde Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical).
SINGING SIBLINGS will feature classic Broadway tunes from WEST SIDE STORY, EVITA, GODSPELL, A CHORUS LINE, DAMN YANKEES and CAROUSEL to name a few. And there might just be a surprise guest or two to take the stage along with Denene & Brian. This concert will be a musical theatre lover’s dream!
