Nich Mueller will be known to Farmers Alley audiences from his starring role in 2014's Wilde Award Winning production of Old Wicked Songs. His concert in late August will showcase his jazz roots (from songwriting as a child to his experience as director of Gold Company II) and regale us with original music before he relocates to New Yor City in the fall.

Our eighth season opens with one of the most popular comedies in Musical Theatre history – LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS. Based on the 1950s B-Movie, this campy musical (with songs by the famous Disney songwriting team Alan Menken & Howard Ashman) tells the familiar tale we all have “grown” to love. Boy meets girl. Boy gets plant. Plant drinks blood. Boy gets famous. Boy gets girl. Plant eats the world! LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS has delighted audiences young and old for over 30 years, and we’re so excited to bring the music, fun, and, oh yes, the blood, to our intimate space every night this fall. In November, the weather will turn colder, but the laughs inside Farmers Alley will keep everyone warm as we present the comedy FULLY COMMITTED. This devastatingly funny one-man show is sure to leave audiences in stiches – as one actor portrays over 40 different characters! Out of work actor Sam spends all day on the phone as the reservations manager for Manhattan’s hottest restaurant, dealing with New York’s most annoying and entitled patrons. Juggling a barrage of customer complaints, an egomaniacal boss, and a father who just wants him home for Christmas, Sam does his best to maintain his sanity. Named one of the Top Ten plays of 2000 by Time Magazine, FULLY COMMITTED is a fast-paced “one man farce” that is unlike anything you’ve ever seen on the Farmers Alley stage.

Our famous Cabaret setting returns this December as we celebrate the 25th anniversary production of the original FOREVER PLAID. Sparky, Smudge, Jinx and Frankie are four singers who dream of being famous, but on the way to their first big gig, “The Plaids” are slammed broadside by a school bus and killed instantly. It is at that moment when their lives end, that the story of FOREVER PLAID begins. Singing in close harmony with a program of pop hits of the 1950s (“Three Coins in the Fountain”, “Sixteen Tons”, “Heart and Soul”), join us this holiday season and discover (or rediscover) the show that inspired our past hit productions of Plaid Tidings, The Marvelous Wonderettes, and Life Could Be a Dream.

Murder for Two
We kick off our move to WMU’s Little Theatre with another collaboration with the Irving S. Gilmore Keyboard Festival, that we are once again honored to be partnered with. You may remember our last joint venture with Gilmore was the emotional two-man play, OLD WICKED SONGS. This time around two men and one piano will have you doubled in laughter with the raucous and zany musical mystery, MURDER FOR TWO. In this hilarious 90-imnute show, 2 performers play 13 roles – not to mention the piano – in a witty and winking homage to the old fashioned whodunit. A runaway hit in both Chicago and New York City, Farmers Alley is one of the very first regional theatres to produce this killer musical comedy.
A Man of No Importance
June musicals at Farmers Alley Theatre have always given us an opportunity to shine a light on some new or lesser-known work. Next to Normal, Parade and last year’s Dogfight are just a few titles that we have brought to vivid life. This year, we bring to the stage our latest “diamond in the rough” – A Man of No Importance. From the songwriting team behind the musical Ragtime, comes the tale of bus driver Alfie Byrne, a man with a secret that he can’t share with anyone but his imagined confidante, Oscar Wilde. Set in 1964 Dublin with a lush Irish-inspired score, A Man Of No Importance is a rare gem in the canon of musical theater, one which combines the depth and drama of a play with the lyricism and comedy of a musical.
Our eighth season concludes, with what might very well be the funniest show in musical theatre history! Join King Arthur and his bumbling Knights of the Round Table as they hilariously search for the Holy Grail in Monty Python’s Spamalot. Lovingly ripped off from the classic movie, WMU’s Little Theatre stage will be the host for Killer Rabbits, the Knights who say “Ni!”, and the ravishingly beautiful Lady of the Lake (and her Laker Girls). Spamalot is a multiple Tony winner that is sure to end our season with laughter and some memorable tunes.
