IT'S ONLY A PLAY opens March 9th!

The cast of "It's Only a Play"

Mar 2, 2018 | It's Only a Play

Get ready to laugh!  Farmers Alley Theatre is supremely proud to present the funniest comedy of the year: IT’S ONLY A PLAY. Running March 9th-25th at our original downtown location at 221 Farmers Alley, this hilarious new work by Award-Winning playwright Terrence McNally (The Full Monty, Master Class, Ragtime) comes to West Michigan straight from its smash hit run on Broadway that starred Nathan Lane & Matthew Broderick.  Filled with sharp wit, ridiculous sight gags and a dash of Broadway magic, this is one play that is sure to receive a standing ovation!

It’s the opening night of The Golden Egg on Broadway, and all of the show’s major players including the excitable playwright, the pill-popping star, and the unstable director are attending a lavish post-show party at the wealthy producer’s Manhattan townhouse. They’re all anxiously awaiting a review from The New York Times which will signify if the show is a flop or a hit.  It’s a prime recipe for narcissism, ambition, childishness, and most importantly, comedy.  The real New York Times called it “hilariously, sidesplittingly funny….These are among the funniest lines to roll off a stage in years….IT’S ONLY A PLAY deserves a rave.”

Farmers Alley Theatre is so blessed to have Broadway credited and WMU alumni David Alpert (Artistic Director of BroadwayCon, Broadway’s If/Then, Farmers Alley’s Vanya & Sonia & Masha & Spike) return home as director for this riotous production.  David has put together an extremely talented cast of local and out-of-town professionals that include gifted comedians Aral Gribble (Fully Committed), Kate Thomsen (Vanya & Sonia…), Vince Kracht, Tara Nulty, Dwight L. Trice, Jr. (Monty Python’s Spamalot), Jono Mammel and Michael Scheidt (Urinetown).

IT’S ONLY A PLAY runs March 9th-25th at 221 Farmers Alley. Tickets are $30 on Fri/Sat/Sun and $25 on Thursdays.  Seniors 65 and above receive $2 off per ticket.  Student tickets are $15. Contains adult language. Reservations can be made by calling our Box Office at (269) 343-2727 or visiting

IT’S ONLY A PLAY is sponsored in part by First National Bank of Michigan and Fence and Garden: A Farm N Garden Company.
