Farmers Alley Theatre re-opens in the Fall of 2021 with the inspirational musical, SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD
Located in the heart of Downtown Kalamazoo, Farmers Alley Theatre is bursting at the seams to open their doors and welcome live audiences into their space for the first time since March of 2020 with Jason Robert Brown’s emotive song cycle, SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD – running October 8-24. Directed by Broadway star and Kalamazoo native, Jerry Dixon, this powerful musical is the ideal production to re-open our doors to a brand new post-pandemic landscape that Farmers Alley Theatre is eager to meet with compassion, understanding and pure joy.
This powerful musical, compiled of 16 uniquely compelling songs features a multi-cultural cast as they take you on a journey from the deck of a Spanish sailing ship to 30 stories high above Manhattan and all the way to the Stars and the Moon. Featuring standout tunes like “I’m not Afraid of Anything”, “King of the World”, and “I’d Give it All for You”, composer Jason Robert Brown (Parade, The Bridges of Madison County) has a gift for incisive lyrics and sweeping melodies that are going to fill Farmers Alley Theatre’s intimate black-box with the power of music we sorely need today. Paired with the artistic vision of Jerry Dixon, Songs for a New World reflects the human experience with tenderness, insight and a zest for life.
SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD will be directed by Jerry Dixon. A West Michigan native and graduate of nearby Kalamazoo Central High School, Dixon has had an extensive Broadway career which includes the original casts of Once on this Island, Five Guys Named Moe, and If/Then, as well as the original cast of Jonathan Larson’s Tick, Tick, Boom! as Michael, for which he was nominated for a Drama Desk Award. A gifted director, choreographer, writer, lyricist and composer, Farmers Alley Theatre is thrilled to bring Dixon back to Kalamazoo where he honed so many of his lifelong skills.
SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD will feature four extremely talented professional performers from across the country: Cara Palombo (Honky Tonk Angels at Farmers Alley Theatre), Nattalyee Randall (National Tour of Vocalosity), Jos N. Banks (National Tour of Kinky Boots) and Matthew Stoke (Soloist on AIDA Cruise Lines). Music direction by Cole P. Abod (Fun Home at Farmers Alley Theatre).
