Cheers to the “ones who give hope in the darkness”: Why Come From Away is Coming Back!

September 28, 2026

‍

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the events that inspired Come From Away – when the world was thrust into a time of fear and uncertainty. Because of what unfolded in Gander, Newfoundland, this play continues to inspire empathy, community resilience and hope.

To say that Come From Away is back by popular demand at Farmers Alley Theatre is an understatement. The show sold out at a rapid pace last year. Just as importantly, audience members said they want to see it again, and bring friends and family. The show is selling fast again this year. “Audiences often described Come From Away as a ‘warm hug,’” marveled director Kathy Mulay, “They emerged deeply moved, visibly emotional, and energized—laughing, talking, wiping away tears, and reflecting on the journey they had just shared.”

Theatre is a unifying experience regardless, but witnessing this show at Farmers Alley heightens that experience. “In a small space, the actor doesn’t need to over-act to be seen or heard, so the lines and physicality can be honest,” Mulay added.

This year’s production will have some fresh takes, but will hold true to the powerful events that made Come From Away the most performed show of the 2025/2026 season. Mulay justifies, “When a show moves audiences the way this one did, you listen. And when the audience asks for an encore, you give them one.”
