Director of Development (Full-Time)

About the Position 

This position is responsible for the management and execution of the overall development program.  The Director of Development reports to the Executive Director and provides staff support for the Development Committee of the Board of Directors. Annually, this person will establish, with the Development Committee, a plan to secure adequate resources to meet the theatre’s immediate and long-term needs. 

Working Conditions 

This is a full-time, at-will position, working collaboratively with a small staff in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The position requires work involving irregular shifts, including some evenings and  weekends. 

Job Duties 

Areas of responsibility include development strategy; relationships with foundations; grants; major gifts; corporate sponsorships; annual campaigns; special events; planned giving; donor recognition; overseeing database management and record keeping; budgeting; and special projects as assigned by the Executive Director. Capital campaign experience is a plus. This individual works collaboratively with board and staff members to ensure development interests are represented in the community. 

Requirements 

The selected individual will have a proven track record in meeting/exceeding fundraising goals, including securing large gifts; writing successful grants; and cultivating authentic relationships. Experience should include a strategic approach to all aspects of fundraising and grant writing. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are expected in the ideal candidate. 

Salary 

$60,000, plus medical, dental, vision insurance coverage for themselves and their family through the group insurance plans offered by Farmers Alley Theatre. Farmers Alley Theatre currently covers  most of the cost of these plans.
